Debt Action Forum - First Meeting Takes Place
12 February 2009In January 2009, Community Safety Minister, Fergus Ewing announced that a Debt Action Forum would be set up to ensure the Scottish Government is doing everything in its power to help those in Scotland struggling with personal debt.
The Forum, which is chaired by Mr Ewing, brings together experts from a number of fields including Money Advice Scotland, the Council of Scottish Clearing Bankers, The Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities, the Scottish Legal Aid Board and the Accountant in Bankruptcy.
The group met for the first time on 21 January 2009 and discussed various issues including prospective new measures to safeguard family homes in cases of financial distress.
A Sub-Group of the Forum has also been established to look specifically at the issues surrounding repossession of homes, and what potentially can be done to assist those in danger of having their houses repossessed. The minutes of this Group's meetings will be published in due course.
