AiB Signs up to Switch Off For Earth Hour

23/03/2009

Reducing the harmful impact of our day to day business operations is the key point of the Agency's environmental policy. That is why, AiB recently signed up to switch off for the Earth Hour on Saturday, 28 March 2009 along with the growing list of organisations and individuals worldwide who have expressed their support for a definitive stand on climate change.

Supporters of the campaign include:

  • The Scottish Parliament
  • Edinburgh City Council
  • Edinburgh City Chambers
  • East Ayrshire Council;
  • as well as Accountant in Bankruptcy

Along with these organisations, AiB is keen to demonstrate to the rest of the world that Scotland recognises the need to address the detrimental effect of climate change in the environment, by raising the public's understanding and awareness.

AiB, being a part of the Scottish Government, also shares these ideals. Its in-house environmental group, the 'Green Team' has a line up of activities geared towards the issue which includes joining the Earth Hour campaign.

By signing up to Earth Hour, the Agency shows its commitment to the cause and has agreed to turn off all the lights inside the building from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. This will form part of the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF's) goal to sign up 1 billion participants worldwide to switch off their lights during the hour. It hopes to show our world leaders that they need to make a positive difference as they forge an agreement in the upcoming UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen in December 2009.

The Agency's participation also extends to encouraging staff to do the same. For the past few weeks, AiB's Green Team has conducted an Earth Hour information campaign, published in its monthly online environmental newsletter, 'Enviro-news', encouraging staff to sign up.

There are still a few days left to sign up for Earth Hour!

More information is available on the WWF Website.
