Data Protection

Data Protection Act 1998

The Data Protection Act 1998 came into force on 1 March 2000.

The Data Protection Act requires all organisations which handle personal information to comply with a number of important principles regarding privacy and disclosure. All organisations are legally obliged to protect any personal information they hold. As a public body, AiB must also provide public access to official information.

Data Protection Policy

AiB have developed a Data Protection Policy Statement which sets out how the Agency will deal with public enquiries in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Retention and Disposal of Information

AiB operate a Records Retention and Disposal Schedule to ensure that information is not kept for any longer than necessary in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act.

Subject Access Requests

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to ask us for a copy of any personal information that AiB hold relating to you. This is called a subject access request.

If you wish to access your personal information you should make your request in writing by completing a DPA2 form and providing 2 forms of proof of your identity, at least one of which must be photographic.

The Agency aim to meet your request within 40 days of receiving your completed DPA2 form and identification.
