Debt Advice and Information Package

The Debt Advice and Information Package (DAIP) provides important information for debtors to help them deal with their creditors. The package currently consists of two leaflets. One of these gives information about common forms of enforcement and encourages the debtor to seek money advice. It also gives information about bankruptcy and provides details of other sources of debt advice. The second leaflet provides information about the availability of money advice in the debtor's local area.

Where the debtor is an individual, a creditor is required by law to arrange to provide a DAIP prior to using most types of diligence. There is a set timescale for the issue of a DAIP within each of the processes in which it is required. Generally it must be issued no earlier than 12 weeks before diligence is carried out. The DAIP must also be issued before a creditor presents a petition for the debtor's bankruptcy and before the signing of a trust deed.
