Q16. I have received a Warrant to Cite. What is this?
It is a notice from the Court which informs you that one or more of your creditors is attempting to make you bankrupt and giving you the opportunity to explain why you should not be made bankrupt. It will notify you of a date set for a hearing.
The creditor must send you a Debt Advice and Information Pack, before they petition for your bankruptcy. If you have not received this, you should inform the Court.
If you do not pay the debt or explain why you should not be made bankrupt, you may be made bankrupt on the date set for the hearing.
If you receive a Warrant to Cite you should seek advice from a money adviser at your local Citizens Advice Bureau, Money Advice Centre or Trading Standards Office about possible ways to deal with your debt, before the court date for the bankruptcy hearing.
