Frequently Asked Questions

Q22. Will my employer or neighbours find out?

Your trustee will not contact your employer or anyone else unless there is a good reason to do so.

If you agree or are ordered by the courts to pay a contribution to your trustee from your earnings, your trustee can ask the court to instruct your employer to make payments direct from your earnings to him.

All bankruptcies are advertised in a publication called the Edinburgh Gazette. This is a specialist newspaper usually read only by creditors and credit reference agencies.

All bankruptcies are also recorded in the public Register of Insolvencies which can be searched by anyone. There is normally a charge to search the Register of Insolvencies.
