Register of Insolvencies

Introduction

The Register of Insolvencies (ROI) is a publicly accessible online database that shows information about people and businesses in Scotland who are insolvent or have been given extra time to deal with their debts (called a moratorium).

Anyone can search the ROI to find out if someone:

  • is bankrupt
  • has a trust deed
  • has a moratorium

The register includes both individuals and businesses.

Register a moratorium

You can apply for a moratorium if you:

  • live in Scotland
  • have unsecured debts
  • have not applied for a moratorium in the last 12 months
  • have not already entered bankruptcy
  • are not already in a Trust Deed or a Debt Arrangement Scheme

You can apply by yourself or a money adviser can apply for you.

Once you or a money adviser has submitted your application, the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) will review it and make a decision.

Information on a moratorium and how to apply can be found on the mygov website.
